Klondike Day

A day in the life of the Ice Cream guys.

Typically we work 5 or 6 days a week, but we do work 7 days at least once a month.

On a normal week day we (me, dad, and Ryan) leave home (R 37A) between 11 and 12.  We then head down river towards the dam.  We go under Hales Ford Bridge around 1:30 PM.  We then head toward the state park, we stop at the island around 2.  Then we continue towards the state park, we get to the park around 2:45-3:00, we have lunch, and leave about 3:45.  We then head towards The Board Walk development.  We get there around 4-4:15.  Then we turn around and start back, on the way back we go in and out of most of the coves we pass, we go under Hales Ford Bridge on our return around 6:30-7:30.  When we finally get home its around 8:15.  We then go up to the house eat supper, sit down and relax for about an hour (just to stop that "rocking feeling" from being on the lake all day).  Ryan and I head back down to the dock around 10 PM, we restock the ice cream, re-fuel the boat, check oil levels, and make any necessary repairs to the boat.  When we finally finish its around mid-night to 1 AM, then we go to bed and get up the next morning around 10 AM eat breakfast and start over.

Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are a little different.  They normally start right at 11 AM, and we get to Hales Ford Bridge around 1.  We then get to the island around 2 and leave it around 2:30, heading for the state park.  We get to the park around 3:15, eat lunch and leave by 4-4:15.  We then head towards Board Walk, get there around 4:45.  We then turn around and head back up river going in and out of coves along the way.  We pass under Hales Ford Bridge on our return trip around 8:30-9 PM we then get home around 9:30-10.  We eat supper, relax for a little while and go back down to the dock to restock, re-fuel, and make repairs.  When we finish its around 1 AM.

If we decide to take a day off, its usually Monday.  On that day we order ice cream from our suppliers and pick it up, we also buy a weeks worth of gas while we're off.

Click this link to see a map of the lake, the highlighted areas, are the areas of the lake we cover.

This is a larger version of the map with greater detail, better suited for broadband (cable) connections.
