Ice Cream Boat inspires Artist

The Smith Mountain Eagle

P. Buckley Moss made a surprise visit to her latest print display, "Double
Dippin" featured at The Cottage Gate in Westlake on April 28.
The print is of Smith Mountain Lake's Ice Cream Boat operated by brothers
Travis and Ryan Burke.
"It's like we hit the big time. To have her do something on the boat seems
unreal," said Travis.
Moss said she has been working on this project for years, studying numerous
photos of the boys' past summers.
"It's a great local spirited idea. Everyone knows the Ice Cream Boat. The
boy's father had such a wonderful idea, he really watches over them and the
Ice Cream Boat is so wonderful," said Moss.
Bill Burke, father of Travis and Ryan, said that he is proud of his boys
and their original business and enjoys helping them on the Lake.
"I wanted them to have an opportunity to see what owning a business is like.
No one else is doing it. We are the most photographed and video taped guys
on the Lake because we offer a service that no one else provides," said Bill
Burke.
The original watercolor print of Double Dippin' is $7,000, prints are available for $125 unframed.
Continuing on their fifth summer, Travis 19, and Ryan, 15, are ready for the
summer to begin serving Lake residents and visitors.
"Seeing a kid jumping and happy makes it worth a 9 or 10 hour day," said
Ryan.
